Origin
A bunch of creative enthusiasts, from varied professions, began their journey in the early nineties with a goal to contribute towards Bengali theatre. Professional pressures disintegrated them a bit midway, only to see them regroup after nearly twenty years. That is what the very name “Bachhor Koori Porey” (Twenty years after) signifies.
Abiding by this clarion call, the team got rejuvenated and launched a production, “EBONG ANDHOKAR”, in August 2015. It mesmerized the audience and the media in its 30 plus performances across the country. Also, selected by the National School of Drama, it was staged at its 8th Theatre Olympics, in March, 2018, at the Madhav Deva Kalakendra, Guwahati, wherein it received heartfelt appreciation from the viewers, for its overwhelming success.
Thereafter, in June 2019, the group staged their long-awaited marvel, “PRIYOTAMASU”, a classic by all means and the same was selected by National School of Drama as well to be showcased at the 21st Bharat Rang Mahotsav, in February 2020. The play earned tremendous applause across all sections of viewers including students and eminent dignitaries present at the Sri Ram Centre Auditorium, New Delhi.
Of late, after being intermittently hit by the dreadful Pandemic, as everywhere around, the group could finally manage to stage their next production, another classical presentation, “ITIKAWTHA”, on 24th of April, 2022. It will not be out of place to mention that the play had touched the right cord, with immediate effect, to win the hearts of discerning viewers.

PRITHUNANDAN GHOSE
Playwright and Director

A graduate in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Prithu perhaps inherited his affinity towards various forms of art from his late father, a graduate from Government Art College, Kolkata. However, his love for theatre, in particular, developed in the early eighties when he grew up viewing some of the elite productions of Bengali stage. Thereafter, at early nineties, he took part in the play, “Schweik Gyalo Juddhey”, directed by the renowned director Shri Bibhash Chakraborty of ‘Anya Theatre’, Kolkata.

In the year 1993, assisted by creative minds from various professions, he had established a Theatre group, “Kathik” and directed its very first production, the very next year, which continued to be staged till early 1997. Times changed, teammates dispersed to meet their unavoidable professional commitments, but it was never easy for Prithunandan to stay away from theatre.

After nearly twenty years, getting re-united with some of the old compatriots, he formed a theatre group, yet again, named “Bachor Koori Porey” (BKP) and produced a series of sensational marvels in the form of “EBONG ANDHOKAR” (2015), “ADHORA” (2016), “PRIYOTAMASU” (2019) and post pandemic “ITIKAWTHA” (2022). Apart from directing, he was the playwright, wrote the lyrics and scores for the songs, designed the stagecraft and created the background scores.
